1863 - 1887

With the death of Samuel Vaughan, his widow Malvina is left to tend the farm.
In the 1870 census, it appears that Malvina is managing the farm alone having only the help of her youngest daughter Matilda who is 16 and
another young woman named Phillis listed as working on Farm.

By 1866, Carter has married Sarah Wilcox.  Sometime thereafter and appearing on the 1880 Census, he and new wife Sarah move into the home, no doubt to assist Malvina with running the farm and household. This continues until 1887, when Malvina passes away at the age of 69. Malvina is buried next to her husband in the family cemetery near the home.  The home then passes to Carter who begins to make updates to the home as evidenced by the addition of Mason symbols on the fireplace and atop the Chimney.
