FORT WORTH -- Walter Hayes Jr., 79, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at his home. Memorial service: was held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, in University Christian Church. Visitation: was held 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, march 6, 2005, at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the music fund at University Christian Church or to Baylor University.
Walter was born May 9, 1925, to Sheriff Walter Hayes and Rilla Hayes in Corsicana, where he was raised and educated. Walter served in World War II and "flew the hump" as a pilot for the Army Air Corps.
After the war, Walter received his law degree from Baylor University. He enjoyed a long and interesting career in real estate law until his death. He married Dorothy Dwyer in 1954, and they had two daughters, Lynn and Amy. Walter was his own man. He possessed an insatiable love of learning that he instilled within those he loved. He loved music, words, maps, poetry, his children, his granddaughters and his friends. Those who loved him will miss his wisdom, his singing, his whistling and his sense of humor. He was adored by his family and friends, and he will be missed dearly.
Walter was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy; and his parents.
Survivors: Daughters, Lynn Hayes and Amy Smiley and her husband, Randy; granddaughters, Diana Lynn Maddox and Hannah Hayes Smiley.

RECEIVES SILVER WINGS - Walter Hayes Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hayes, 518 West Second avenue, has received his silver wings and graduated as a flight officer from the Advanced Two-Engined Pilot School, Pecos Army Air Field it was announced by Col. Henry B. Fisher, commanding officer. He is a former student of the Corsicana high school. [2]
