    - Excerpt from family history....

Not sure of the date but probably around 1900, Grandpa Frank DeWitt leased a log cabin on railroad land near Powell, Missouri. In a letter dated May 28,1977 Aunt Anza described the log cabin.

“Now about the old log cabin, It was on railroad land and could only be leased so Dad leased it. One big room with a big fireplace and a kitchen built on (frame). Then after we moved there, he built a bedroom on for us kids. And there was a smoke house where they hung the pork and smoked it with hickory chips. Sure was good. We had a spring for water. It was probably 50 feet from the house but then it seemed like a mile. Ha! Sometimes I wish I was back in those old hills. The country is beautiful.”
