      SAN ANTONIO—UP— An Air Force board conducted an investigation Friday into two separate Randolph Air Force Base crashes which killed five airmen and injured critically two others.

      The most deadly was that of a 8-29 which crashed and burned on takeoff, killing four and injuring two.
      The Air Force identified the dead as: Capt. James S. Crawford Jr., 32, instructor-pilot, son of Mr. and Mrs. James S. Crawford Sr., Jackson Heights, .New York. T-Sgl. Charles M. Hawthorne, 30, Instructor-engineer, husband of
      Mrs, Jean M. Hawthorne of Randolph and son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Hawthorne, Chula Vista Calif., LI. Col. Willie G. Woods Jr., 34, aircraft commander, husband of Mrs. Jeanne T. Woods/Randolph; father, W. G. Woods, Sr., Fort
      Worth. Second Lt. Bobbie Gene Wykert, 22, co-pilot, son of George H. Wykert, Troy, Kan. The injured men, both airmen
      second class, were Identified as Thomas A. Scholleri of Chicago and Robert F. Philipski of Detroit.

      Scolleri was in Brooke Army hospital with second and third degree burns; Philipski was treated at Brooke and later transferred to the hospital at Randolph.

      A second plane, a B-57 twin jet bomber from Randolph, crashed and burned 16 miles north of San Antonio. Capt. William P. Brown, 32, of Springfield, 111., the student pilot, was killed. Brown was the son of Illinois Police Supt. and Mrs. Phillip M. Brown of Springfield. Other survivors included his wife. Margaret W. Brown, and a 21-month-old daughter.

      Brown was on a training mission. The B-2!) also on a training mission and the type of plane used to deliver the atom bomb
      on Hiroshima in World War II, west end runway at Randolph. Randolph authorities said the B-29 was practicing touch -and-go takeoffs and landings. The two suffered burns and shock.
