    • Obituary: Barbara Ann Cunningham was born in Gaston County, North Carolina, on March 17, 1856. She was the daughter of George and Sarah Kizer. Her father lost his life in the Civil War. At the age of 15 her mother moved her family across the mountains into what is now Henderson County. The journey was more difficult than we can imagine. The older children walked all the way. No traveling was ever done on Sunday. The trip lasted about three months.

Barbara Kizer was married to James B. Cunningham. To this union were born eight children: Walter, who died at the age of 14 months, Mrs. Lessie Hester, Paris, Tennessee, Mrs. Betty Webb, who died at the age of 21, leaving Ruby (Mrs. Morris Brooks), to the care of her husband, Miles Webb, and mother, Mrs. Hubert (Lela) Webb, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, T.L. Cunningham of Milan, John Cunningham of Wildersville, Mrs. George (Minnie) Bolen, Lexington, and Mrs. James (Georgia) Bolen of Wildersville.

She professed faith in Christ at the age of 23, and together with her husband, became a charter member of the church at Cross Roads. She was faithful to her Savior. She taught her children to love and obey the Lord. During her long illness she expressed a desire to meet, first, her Savior, and then her husband, who preceded her in death 13 years ago.

She was nursed lovingly and faithfully by her daughter, Georgia, and her family. Funeral services were conducted in the Wildersville Baptist Church by Bros. George Bolen and Walter Moody. She is survived by six children, twelve grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Her body was laid to rest in the Jones Cemetery beside her husband there to await resurrection.
